Lisa Gallacher
Speech-Language Therapist, CARA Limited

Lisa Gallacher presents a two part seminar on evidence-based intervention strategies for developing speech and language skills in children and young people with Down Syndrome.
Part 1 will focus on evidence-based practice and supporting speech development.
Part 2 will focus on developing language and communication skills.
At the end of the seminars, participants will have a better understanding of:
  • The effects of Down Syndrome on speech and language development.
  • The implications of these effects for intervention strategies.
  • What we can do to affect change for our children and students.
Lisa has been providing speech and language therapy for children and young people with Down Syndrome for 17 years in a range of settings including homes, preschools, schools and special education units.  Lisa is passionate about providing interventions that enable children and young people to meet their potential.
Lisa will be delivering the seminar based on material presented at the 2015 Australian Down Syndrome Conference. The conference was led by Professor Sue Buckley, Down Syndrome Education International. Sue Buckley is a leading expert in education and development for young people with Down syndrome. Sue began research examining early reading instruction for children with Down syndrome in 1980 and founded Down Syndrome Education International in 1986. Her research and contributions to the lives of young people with Down syndrome has been widely recognised through numerous awards.
