our mission:
to enhance the inclusion of people with down syndrome within the community

The Otago Down Syndrome Association (ODSA) is a family/whanāu
support organisation that provides information and support for people with Down syndrome and their families.

ODSA was established by parents in 2010.  Today ODSA is run by parents, grandparents, siblings and also relies on the support of volunteers.

Membership of ODSA is free.   Read more about joining ODSA here.
Our Vision
We believe that all people are valued and contributing members of our community.
We work hard to support and promote the inclusion of people with Down syndrome in the community in a variety of ways.

We provide information to people with Down syndrome, their families and carers.
We promote the rights and interests of people with Down syndrome, their families and carers.
We promote a positive public awareness and attitude of Down syndrome within the community.
To achieve our vision we provide services including:
  • Support for families who have a member with Down syndrome.
  • Information packs about Down syndrome for new families.
  • Information packs for families whose children with Down syndrome are transitioning to school.
  • Information on services available in Otago for people with Down syndrome and their families.
  • A network of people who can visit families with a diagnosis of Down syndrome - at home or in the hospital, pre or post birth.
  • Monthly family socials for families of all ages creating opportunities for people with Down syndrome and their families to meet.
  • Active social clubs for people with Down syndrome.
  • A lending library with educational and information resources.
  • Training for teachers and teacher aides through regular courses and workshops.
  • Advocacy and assistance for members as required.
  • A regular newsletter.
  • Networks with other disability agencies such as the New Zealand Down Syndrome Association, Parent 2 Parent and the Family Network.
