My family consists of Zoe Age 10, Searlait Age 8 and husband Andrew. Searlait has Down Syndrome and both girls attend St Clair School.
Dunedin born Andrew and I first met in my home town, Carlow, in Ireland and the girls were both born there. It was always our plan to move back to Dunedin, which we did in 2010, something we have not regretted.
During the day I work part time in administration for Jesco Hydraulics a Pneumatic Engineers company. This allows me to spend time in the afternoons with the girls going to Zoe's sports games or Searlait's after school music and swimming classes.
In my spare time I like to garden, usually with some help from the girls! We are also a keen sporting family, particularly rugby, with Andrew involved in coaching a local club.
I joined the ODSA because I wanted to be involved with other families who have a member with Down Syndorme, and to share information and experiences. I was told by a nurse when Searlait was young, that we were starting out on a wonderful journey, would meet some great people, and Searlait would teach us so much, and already that has proved to be so true.

My family consists of three beautiful boys (Isaac 7 years, Nathaniel 4 years & Reuben nearly 2 years) and one long suffering husband (Mark). Our oldest son, Isaac has Down Syndrome and attends East Taieri School.
During the day Mark and I run an IT company called Decision1 that supports business and school computer networks. We set this company up together in 2001 and we now have an excellent team of technicians who do great work.
In my spare time I teach the bagpipes and am the Principal of the Otago School of Piping and Drumming. We have a small school of around 30-50 students to whom we teach bagpipes and pipeband drumming.
I joined the ODSA because Mark and I were looking for support from others who had walked this path before us. It didn't take us too long to realise that Isaac could achieve great things and that the resources were available to make it happen, but that the task was huge. We both continue to search for the wisdom and knowledge of others, and strive to share our knowledge with others who come after us.
